REVIEW! Mango Mystique Medium Variety Selection

Mango Mystique Medium Variety Selection

After seeing a review of Mango Mystique's Medium selection box on Chocolate Mission, I was intrigued by their mango based chocolates.  I think that mango is quite an acquired taste, you either love it or hate it. As luck would have it I love it, but mango and chocolate is not a combination that I think I have ever experienced.

Mango Mystique are a small company based in Cambridge in the UK and unsurprisingly all of their products are mango based.  They have a good selection of chocolates available on their website and they also sell dipped mango strips (you can read the Chocolate Mission review of those here) and Pates de Fruits.  I decided to go for a Box 9 Medium Variety Selection which contains 12 chocolates and was priced at £14.80.

The beautifully packaged selection box arrived in the post a few days later.  The chocolates are presented in a lovely printed tin and each chocolate was in a little truffle case.  The coloured dots on the top were to help you see which chocolate was which using the little menu card provided.

The box contained a mixture of dark, milk and white chocolates, there were 2 of each of these which contained plain mango butter.  There was also 1 of of each of dark with whisky, dark with Grand Marnier, dark with Vana Tallinn (an Estonian rum liqueur), dark with chilli, dark with Coconut Ganache and 1 milk chocolate with Malibu.  Being a coconut lover, I was particularly excited about the last 2!

Beautiful looking chocolates!

Each chocolate is a little dome shape with a thick chocolate base.  I was expecting the mango butter to be more of a creamy looking substance but it was almost like a mango jam.  It was delicious and smooth and the taste of mango is very strong.

The white chocolate was beautifully creamy with a hint of vanilla and with the mango butter, tasted amazing. The milk and dark chocolates were also very good.  I was a bit wary of the boozy chocolates (with the exception of the Malibu one) but actually it turns out that booze, mango and chocolate goes really well together!  I must confess that I didn't particularly enjoy the mango and chill offering, I don't really like chilli and chocolate so this was no surprise.

White Chocolate with Mango

The Malibu chocolate had a white dusting on it which is coconut milk powder and this chocolate lived up to my high expectations. The combination of mango and the coconut flavour of the Malibu was a lovely tropical taste.

My absolute favourite (and I always thought it might be) was the dark chocolate with mango and coconut.  This chocolate was amazing!  The coconut ganache was lovely and creamy and tasted very sweet and along with the mango was even more tropical tasting than the Malibu chocolate.  I could just picture myself sat on a desert island somewhere eating a box of these bad boys!

Dark with Mango and Coconut
Verdict
I was extremely impressed with Mango Mystique's selection box!  It is expensive but this is a high end and high quality product that you getting, even the packaging has been well thought out.  I would definitely treat myself to some of these chocolate's again, especially if there was a box of just the mango and coconut ones available!

  3. These look amazing! You didn't mention shipping, but I checked and it seems relatively cheap (£1 for a small box). The shape, the tin, the flavours, the perfect gift, I'm making note. Thanks!
